Ten months after submitting it to the WordPress Theme Directory, my number one goal with Nuovo finally got checked off.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Nuovo was finally accepted into the WordPress Theme Directory and is available for anyone to download and use.
It’s been an incredible relief to finally get this done with and finish something I started so long ago. Heck, at this point I don’t care if nobody downloads it or not (though at the time of this writing it was up to 851 downloads); I’m just glad I was able to get it in and I now know what it takes.
Of course, in all of this I have found a few issues, primarily with the CSS and what not. I’ve marked those down, though I’ll probably wait until the middle of June or so before working on a version 1.1 to fix those so I’ll have time to find other errors so I’m not sending out updates every other day to fix issues. Besides, they’re not terrible issues at the moment any way.
As for Giornalismo, there’s good news on that front as well. I finished all of the heavy coding and have loaded it into the local development site to go through and fix issues and make it look good and all. There will be some delay in working on it though. Some of what I want to do with this theme requires custom post types, use of shortcodes and custom post meta, which is frowned upon for WordPress themes. In fact, there’s been more of a focus on keeping themes from doing that in recent days. There is an option of putting those things into a plugin and recommending theme users load those plugins (and in fact I was planning on making the breaking news stuff a plugin anyways), but I’m not sure how to go about that yet. So it’ll be a long while before that’s ready to go and all.
But for now, it’s celebration time and time for a well-deserved break. In the meantime, you can download Nuovo here at the WordPress page for it.
