After about a six-month layoff from railfanning, I started again in earnest this past week in Brenham. We made the almost four-hour trek from Arlington for my oldest cousin’s college graduation party and lucky for us, it was near the BNSF’s Galveston Sub’s tracks on the south side of town.

Unfortunately, our luck we had back in December ran out sort of. We walked up to the tracks a couple of times, but had no dice both times. Instead, the trains came by when we were inside eating and cleaning up.

I did notice that the changing of the signals from the searchlight signals to the “Vader hood” signals has begun on that segment of the sub. On the way down, the changeover has been completed on the part of the line from Temple to Somerville, but Brenham is still lagging behind. I didn’t get a chance to see if they’re changing the ones by the diamond in town.

So I guess it wasn’t a complete waste of time.
