Today wasn’t supposed to be a day to railfan. Originally, the plan was to go to the Texas baseball alumni game and cover it for The Daily Texan.
But rain prevented the game from going on. Instead, I decided to take the drive out to Taylor to kill some time.
I had a dual purpose this time around. I needed to grab two photos of good and bad type for the graphic design course I’m taking this semester. So in a way, that was the perfect excuse I needed.
Fortunately, the rain held off just enough for me to get out to Taylor to catch a north-bound Union Pacific container stack train rumbling through the diamond on the southwest side of town.
One of my favorite reasons for coming out here is the slow pace at which the trains go through town. North-bound/east-bound trains have to slow up to go through the Taylor yard and then across the diamond with the Waco Sub. That makes it easy to get just the right shot of the trains going through town and to play with many different types of shots as it rolls on by.
With baseball season about to pick up in the next week or so, I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to get out to railfan the rest of the semester. But this seems to be a very nice place to catch a train or two.
